Renuity, a home improvement company, needed a configure-price-quote (CPQ) web app to help their sales teams build accurate quotes quickly in the field. The workflow behind a home improvement quote involves product configuration, pricing logic, appointment scheduling, and final quote output β€” a lot of complexity for reps who are often sitting in a customer's living room. This web project accompanied an iPad-exclusive experience for the actual quoting process. The web component provided users with a way to upload sales materials, update the product catalog, configure financing, and schedule and manage appointments.
We started with extensive field research workshops, watching reps use their current (outdated) system. The biggest thing that stuck out was the constant back-and-forth switching between tabs, sections, and pages. That became the main driver behind the persistent sidebar β€” reps needed every module visible and one click away at all times.
The appointment scheduling view was the most iterated-on part of the app. We use Google Calendar at Mindgrub, and we noticed reps were using their own personal mobile calendar apps in the field. That naturally became a grounded reference to design from β€” the goal was to make the scheduling view feel familiar so interactions made sense immediately without training. Each appointment card shows client name, address, phone and rep name chipsΒ at a glance so reps don't have to click into each one.
For the Metrics dashboard, each visualization was chosen for the specific question it answers: donut charts for composition, tables for comparison, percentages for progress. I worked closely with a team of developers, and there weren't too many technical constraints, which meant the design could involve more creative, simplified solutions to complex problems.
